There are many different elements to a team Away Day. You need to decide on a nice location, who you want to be there or whether there are any fun elements that you might like to combine with this opportunity of getting people together for the day.

The possibilities are almost endless. But whatever you do, make sure your objectives for the team Away Day are clear.

Most of the corporate Away Days that we have facilitated started with an element of “getting people together” or “getting to know each other better”. This is a common thread for most of the organisations we work with, particularly in the landscape of remote working.

But while this is often a crucial part, there is much more to be gained from a team Away Day than simply getting together. At least, it will be if you are bringing in a facilitator!

To get the most from your team Away Day, whether you engage a facilitator or not, you will need to have settled upon a clear and easily identifiable objective or objectives. If this part is tricky, here are some examples of the kind of things do we get asked to focus on in team Away Days.

Ideas for Team Away Day Objectives

  • To get to know each other and create the feeling of a community within the group.
  • To share ideas about different team aspirations
  • To understand what the team purpose is and what sorts of activities the team might do together to achieve that purpose
  • To agree some actions and next steps of a project
  • To understand how different departments and teams can work together better
  • To decide what kinds of activities the team should be prioritising and focusing on
  • To create a comms and engagement plan with the team for the coming year and prioritise areas of focus.
  • To define key roles and responsibilities within the team
  • To create an action plan
  • To create or review a strategy
  • To review and reflect upon goals achieved over a specific time period
  • To map the customer journey to better understand customers and clients and how they use the services offered.
  • To improve team communication and processes

You can see that there is quite a lot of variety in this list. Each and every team Away Day is different, even if the objectives are similar.

We’d love to help you run the very best possible team Away Day so drop us a message to discuss your requirements, even if you don’t yet have your team Away Day objectives!
