Case Study
Developing an Environmental Action Plan
Jewell Facilitation and Hampshire Cultural Trust

Jewell Facilitation provided support for the creation of an Environmental Action Plan for Hampshire Cultural Trust.
This plan was aligned to the strategic aims of the Trust as well as a number of key objectives outlined in their wider strategy. It was created for the team to work with over the coming year.
The initial challenge
Hampshire Cultural Trust needed to review their existing Environmental Action Plan and set new objectives and plan actions for the next 12 months, for the entire Trust.
They wanted to focus on two of their environmental strategic aims and the nine objectives that had been set to help them meet these aims; to reduce their environmental impact and promote climate action.
It was important that all members of the team were able to take part in the process and to contribute fully rather than leading the sessions themselves.

Getting the team together
Getting things in place
Helene worked with Caroline to create a workshop plan for a session that would enable a group of 17 team members to ideate and create an Environmental Action Plan for the Trust. The team was made up of different subteams from across the Trust including Marketing and Fundraising, People, Finance, Heritage and Attractions and Community Impact. The group knew each other well and although they had different focuses of work within the organisation, the Environment Action Plan cut across all the different teams and so needed everyone’s involvement.
Facilitation in action
Jewell Facilitation helped the teams work in small groups to generate initial ideas for actions to meet the pre-defined objectives that would help them achieve their strategic aims. The ideas were then collated and grouped under 9 different objective headings.
The team was then divided into three workstreams groups comprised of the members of the different complementary subteams. Each group added their actions to the Stickywall, plotting them across different months and quarters of the coming year. The actions were also divided according to workstream group so it was clear who was responsible for each set of actions. They then added indicators of success to each action to demonstrate what the action would look like when completed. The whole group then came together to review the whole plan, which showed what each of the three workstream groups would do over the coming year.
Everyone left the session understanding the plans and the actions that they would be responsible for to achieve their goals.

Generating ideas for actions
Outcomes and benefits
Helene has been my go-to facilitator on a number of projects and I can’t recommend her highly enough. Helene always asks the right questions and keeps everyone moving in the correct direction of travel.
Facilitation is not always an easy task but Helene delivers productively and with calm and focus. I’ll definitely be going directly to Helene next time a facilitator is required.
